I witnessed a bird
Funeral yesterday.
A rabbit attended too –
I kid Not. I heard the thump
On the big window,
Pedernal off to the right.
I could not bare to look
As they all gathered
Round – midair. Reminding
Me of treading water. Or
Like a dance in January –
Cairo. A fortnight too
Many, ago.
Brown & Blue Birds – Chirping
Wildly. Wings, fluttering in the
Evening sky, took to the
Juniper – Perching
Like ornaments. The
Rabbit, still close by.
A video or a photo
In this moment felt
Sacrilege. An intrusion
Into one of Life’s most
Precious gifts,
The Bird Funeral.
